Royal Canadian Legion-Powell River branch hosts Burns night

Scottish poet honoured with traditional celebration

Kilts were swinging and pipes were piping at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164 - Powell River on January 20, all in celebration of the famous Scottish poet Robbie Burns (1759-1796).

Beer or wine preceded “Scots Wha Hae”, the Selkirk Grace, and a buffet dinner of burger, haggis, salad and shortbread. There were toasts to the lassies and lads, highland dancing, poetry readings, a pipe band performance, Scottish tunes on the accordion, Scottish country dancers, a Scottish soloist, a silent auction and a door prize.

The full and fun evening held at the Legion was a fundraiser for the Clansman Pipe Band in preparation of its trip to compete at the Victoria Highland Games in May.
