On August 10, BC Lung Foundation will be holding its 40th annual fundraising event, The Ride for Lung Health.

According to a media release from the association, this epic bike ride starts at Tsawwassen Mills, and with options of 50 km or 100 km, cyclists can travel through Ladner, Delta, White Rock, and Surrey and enjoy stunning landscapes and great company, all while supporting lung health initiatives.

Hugo Sloos is a passionate local cyclist who has participated in the ride for more than 20 years. Sloos initially was introduced to the event through his landlords, who were avid cyclists and supporters of BC Lung, according the release. Now, the annual event has turned into a reunion for Sloos and his friends, who are scattered across the south coast of BC. Sloos resides in the qathet region while other friends live in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.

“It’s such a great opportunity to get together, do something fun, and raise funds for a worthy cause” stated Sloos.

Over four decades, participants of The Ride for Lung Health have raised more than $10 million to aid those battling lung disease in BC.

“I personally know a lot of people who are affected by lung disease and have suffered because of it,” added Sloos. “It feels good to be doing something that can make a difference”

Every year is different on the ride and Sloos loves the innovation that goes into making the event unique year after year. With the event just under a month away, Sloos is looking forward to the fun-filled day.

“I’m excited to be a part of the 40th anniversary, meet new participants, try out the new route, and celebrate the work of BC Lung Foundation,” stated Sloos.

Cyclists are asked to get ready to pedal with purpose and make a real impact on lung health. By joining The Ride for Lung Health, riders are supporting innovative research for the one in five British Columbians affected by lung disease, according to the release.
