Lumberjacks from the qathet region, across Canada and around the world descended upon Willingdon Beach last weekend to showcase their skills and compete against top-notch competition.
Powell River Logger Sports entrants displayed their talents at Loggers Memorial Bowl over two days of events on July 13 and 14. Thousands of curious fans passed through the gates each day to witness a wide variety of categories being contested, including some with Canadian, North American and world championship ramifications.
Novice, intermediate and open category competitors battled for supremacy while displaying skills and experience gained over many years of working in the forest industry.
Logger sports competitions pay homage to the history of forestry and logging. Exciting, fast-paced events originated in logging camps more than 100 years ago and highlight the longevity and importance of the industry.
