Spouse of Hermann Welp. Born in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Passed away in Powell River at the age of 85.
Truce grew up in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, with six siblings during World War II. She was very fond of her family and the family she shared with her husband Hermann for almost 60 years.
When she was younger, she loved playing tennis and field hockey. Throughout her life she maintained her interest in both, as well as European soccer and any skating competitions. In the Netherlands she had a home-based business teaching sewing. This was a great socializing time for her.
In 1984, together with Hermann and their family, they immigrated to Canada. They opened a Dutch Café, where they met numerous patrons, with whom they created lifelong friendships. Even though far away from their European family and friends, they maintained contact with them through annual visits to Europe.
Truce’s four granddaughters were her pride and joy. She passed on her Dutch heritage by speaking, reading and singing to them throughout her life. She also shared with them her love of knitting, sewing, cross-stitching and other hobbies.
Truce, Ma, Omi…we miss you, your laughter, kindness, silliness and most of all…your love.
Truce is survived by her husband of 60 years Hermann, children Peter (Martina), Hanneke and Maarten (Leonardo), and grandchildren Anne, Sophie, Meghan and Maren.
