On February 24th, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed peacefully at Evergreen Extended Care Unit.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Stuart Thomson; daughters Cheryle (Curtis), Carole (Doug) and Charlotte (Tom); son Ryan; sister Mae Cabott; sister-in-law Margaret Willson; four grandchildren Sara, Jillian, Nicole and James; and five great-grandchildren Sophie, Kate, Claire, Grace and Owen.
Inga was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Swedish immigrant parents Anna and Mauritz Nordblad, and raised with her siblings Mae Cabott, Chris Field and Sonny (Mauritz) Nordblad in Maple Ridge, BC. In 1952, she met the love of her life, Stuart Thomson, and they were married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maple Ridge.
Stuart and Inga farmed on Nicomen Island, developing a successful dairy farm where they raised their four children. At their retirement, they moved to Powell River to enjoy their leisure years, golfing, square dancing, boating and becoming a part of this community. During these years, they welcomed four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to the family.
Inga was a homemaker who made her home the centre of care and warmth for her family. She was renowned for her baking, especially the Christmas shortbread, St. Lucia buns and Easter hot cross buns during the holidays. She kept her Swedish heritage alive for her family and taught her granddaughter Nicole how to make the wonderful St. Lucia buns.
Inga was a woman of faith and a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, supporting the local Faith Lutheran Church community.
The family would like to thank the deeply caring and professional staff at Evergreen Care Unit, who provided such exceptional care in her final days. Her family doctors, Dr. Stephen Burns and Dr. A Bazza, guided her care with kindness and compassion.
A service of remembrance at Faith Lutheran Church will be planned for this spring.
