Snow Stroll
Morgan Chernove, Grade 7
Kelly Creek Community School
Grace was walking along the sidewalk, snow crunching beneath her feet every step she took, and surely her nose was cold and red. At this point of walking she couldn't even feel her fingertips placed at her sides, but she did not care for she was too distracted from the glistening icicles hanging delicately around the edges of house roofs
Everything was quiet this evening. It seemed that Grace was the only one to exist in this moment of time, but surely she wasn't because just then a dark-feathered bird flapped its wings repeatedly as it glided out of a small tree and onto a nearby white picket fence. The colour between the thick dark blue feathers of the bird and the white frosted fence contrasted very well together. Grace was pleased by this sight but carried on with her evening walk, but slowly she started to notice that the wind had picked up its pace and carried the snow even faster.
The snow glided through Grace’s silky black hair. The leaves from a nearby maple tree shot out flimsy red and yellow leaves into Grace’s sight, following the same pattern as the snow hitting her smooth olive skin. In a few minutes Grace found herself on the path that brought her home. When she reached the door to her home she softly opened the deep purple wood door with a wreath placed in the middle. The smell of hot cocoa and lightly burning fire wood welcomed her in, the warmth hit her like a wave and even though she enjoyed her pleasant walk she was happy to be home.

The Boy Who Loved Christmas
Ben Holler, Grade 7
Powell River Christian School
Once upon a time there was a kid named Johnny who loved Christmas. The only downside was that he didn't have any parents to spend Christmas with. He lived in an orphanage with lots of other kids like him. He wanted parents for Christmas.
One day after school his friend Jack invited him to spend Christmas with them. Johnny accepted.
Johnny asked the head person in charge of the orphanage if he could go and she said yes. He went to his friend's house and rang the doorbell, his friend opened the door and invited him in.
They had a wonderful dinner of mashed potatoes. They played around a little bit with nerf guns and the family loved him so much they adopted him.
Johnny was a happy child because he now had a family.
The end.

The Best Present
Koen Wulkan, Grade 7
Powell River Christian School
Once there was a boy named Scott Rough. Now Scott loves to draw.
One fine afternoon Scott was minding his business drawing a dog when he looked out the window and saw it was snowing. He'd always wanted snow and a dog.
He could see him and his dog playing in the snow, making snowmen and throwing snowballs for his dog. The next day Scott went for a walk and he passed the BC SPCA and he stopped. He looked through the window and he saw another person getting a dog. He went and told his mom he wanted a dog.
A couple days later it was Christmas. Scott opened his first present and it was a dog. The first thing Scott did was put on his snow pants and went outside.
"Scott," said his mom. "Aren't you going to finish opening your presents?"
"Nope, I got a dog and it's snowing!"
"Come back here now, son," barked his dad." You don't even have a coat."
After Scott got bored outside (which was around dinner), he went inside with his new puppy, ate dinner and went to bed, and he had a great sleep.
The end.

The Big Audition
Annabelle Shostak, Grade 7
Kelly Creek Community School
One day and one day only. Today was the day of the big audition. I was auditioning for the Nutcracker ballet production. I love the Nutcracker.
First, we had to do some bar work and then we had to show a triple pirouette in front of everyone. I’m not the best at pirouettes but I did pretty well. I stumbled a bit on the third one but landed well.
Then, when everyone was done, the lady instructing us put us in lines of the creatures that were the same as you. In the back row there were four penguins, in the second to last row there were nine elves, in the middle row there were three reindeer, in the second to front row there were six snow foxes and in the front row there was one polar bear, and that was me.
I looked around. I was the only polar bear here and I was in the front row. I tried my hardest for the rest of the audition even though I was the only polar bear.
A couple days later I saw the sheet at the dance academy to see who got in. I nervously go up to look. I don’t see my name. I didn't get in.
I ran home crying. I jumped on my bed and fell asleep.
I woke up to my phone ringing. It was the ballet instructor and she told me that she mixed up the names and I actually got Clara.
