The mouse who turned into an elf

Farran Lily Anderson, Grade 4
James Thomson Elementary School

Once it was a nice winter day and Santa was getting ready for Christmas. The elves were busy wrapping gifts.

The mouse lived outside in a hut in the cold.

“I wish I could live in Santa's house by the tree in the fireplace so that I could stay warm,” the little mouse pondered.

“I wish I could have a name,” the small mouse in the hut thought.

He was going to go in the house and make a home in the wall by the fireplace so that he could stay warm. So the little mouse went into the house and whoosh, the little mouse's ears turned all pointy and he grew, and before his very eyes, he turned into an elf. He was wrapping all the gifts for the kids who were good that year, and yes, the small mouse who got turned into the elf got a name and it was Steve, but he wanted Stephen, so they called him Stephen.

He has a home by the fireplace because Santa knows that he was a mouse but was doing so good at wrapping the gifts that he let him stay.

A Christmas Puzzle

Ewan Naylor, Grade 4
Kelly Creek Community School

Jane and Jack raced to their parent’s bedroom.

“It's Christmas, It’s Christmas,” they yelled.

“Alright, alright,” groaned their parents. “We're coming.”

Jane and Jack raced down the stairs seven at a time. And in seconds were on the middle floor. Their parents followed in a much slower descent down the spiral staircase. They all went to the tree or what should have been the tree. Instead of the tree, there were a few scattered pine needles and nothing else.

“What are we going to do?” cried Jane. “We are going to call Mr. Sherlock Holmes,” said Jack.

“Jack,” boasted Jane, “you do know that Sherlock Holmes does not exist?”

“Yes, he does,” said Jack.

“I will go look it up,” said Jane, “so I can prove you wrong.”

Ha!" Jack said, but he went with his sister to the computer. But when they got there the computer was gone.

“Of course, it would be gone,” moaned Jack, clearly unhappy. “Now I can't play video games today.”

“Oh, bother the video games,” said Jane. “Now I can't listen to my music.”

Suddenly, a man in a black trench coat appeared.

“I am detective Frank,” said the man. “I shall figure this out.”

Then Jack saw something, a letter. He opened it.

“Well, that’s a real help,” he scoffed.

Jane looked at the letter.

“A flute!" she said.

“Yep,” he said. “What help is a little flute going to bring us?”

“Maybe we are meant to play it,” she said, “you know, for a little holiday spirit.”

“Sure,” he said.

She picked up the flute and blew a long shrill note. And without a noise or a flash or a warning of any kind, she vanished.

“Huh,” said Jack. “So that must mean, yes, another flute.”

He raised the flute to his lips and blew.

“Wow!” breathed Jack, as he was floating above his house. And then his house started to fade away. And then planets, stars, meteors!

And then there he was standing in bright sunlight and there was Jane, and next to her, the tree!

“Yep,” said Jane, “some nice elves gave it to me. They needed it to strip it of its seeds so they could plant new trees.”

But Jack wasn’t listening. He had already vanished.

Then Jane saw something.

“The computer,” she said, then she grabbed the computer and raised her flute to her lips and blew, and bam! There she was in her own house with Jack.

That evening they ate a Christmas dinner and opened their presents under their glowing tree.

The end.

A Snowy Night

Isla Watson, Grade 4
Kelly Creek Community School

One snowy night two girls called Emmy and Kelly were decorating the Christmas tree. Once they were done they put on their pyjamas and went to bed.

Emmy couldn't go to sleep, she was too excited. Kelly went straight to sleep.

After a few hours Emmy fell asleep. She woke up in the middle of the night and crept down the stairs. She saw Santa! Santa was holding his leg. Emmy rushed down the stairs quietly, so no one woke up.

She asked Santa what happened.

"I fell through the roof," said Santa.

"Ow that must hurt," said Emmy.

Emmy rushed upstairs to Kelly's room. Emmy shook Kelly as hard as she could. When Kelly woke up Emmy was screaming at her.

“KELLY WAKEEEEEEEE UP, SANTA IS HURT!!!!!!"

“Okay okay," said Kelly, still half asleep.

They went down to the family room.

"Oh my God," said Kelly, covering her mouth with her hands. "It's Santa!”

“We have to help him!" cried Emmy.

Kelly ran upstairs and got her bandage box. She got all the big ones out, all the extra-large, and ran downstairs. She put all the extra-large on Santa's leg.

While Kelly was putting the bandages on Santa, Emmy looked out the window. She saw a small fox by the shed. It looked cold.

"I'm going to go outside," yelled Emmy.

Kelly did not listen. Emmy went outside and picked up the small fox. She placed the small fox by the fireplace to warm up.

"Kelly, are you done?" said Emmy.

"Almost, and done," said Kelly.

“Come look," squealed Emmy.

Kelly walked over.

“OMIGOSH!" squealed Kelly. "It's so cute!!!!!!!"

Kelly ran to hug the small fox.

Emmy grabbed the small white fox and said, “No, don't touch him! He's hurt."

"Oh, okay," said Kelly, sadly. "Emmy, let's go call the hospital to help Santa.”

Emmy ran to the phone and dialed 911. It rung and rung and rung. There was no answer.

They called in the morning. They answered.

"Hello, this is Maple Wood Hospital, how can I help you?" said the kind receptionist on the phone.

"We need help," cried Emmy. "SANTA BROKE HIS LEG!!"

"We will be there right away," said the lady.

Santa was saved. They needed to find a home for the fox. They had a lot of ideas, but none of them seemed right. So, they decided they would keep it.

Santa was saved and the fox got a home. They were all happy.

And it ended on a snowy night.

Santa Panda’s Great Christmas

Aiden Arajs, Grade 4
Powell River Christian School

Once upon a time, Santa Panda had a great idea. He thought he could make this Christmas the best Christmas anybody had ever had.

He went to his toy machine and made the best toys he could think of. Finally, he thought of the best toy. He was going to make a super fluffy panda stuffy, and he was going to give it to his cousin. He tried to make it, but something was not working.

He figured out that he did not have fluff to make it! He went to the store in his sleigh, and the panda elves went into the store and got hair and new ornaments for their tree. When they returned, he started making the panda stuffy while the panda elves had a cup of cocoa.

When it was Christmas, he got all his bags and got in his sleigh. He went to every house, and it was time to go to his cousin's house. He held the panda stuffy while he went in, wrapped it in Santa Panda wrapping, put it under the tree, and walked out.

When they got back, he decorated his tree with his new ornaments, looked at his decorations and thought it was awesome!

The following day, his cousin woke up, went to his tree, and unwrapped the wrapping paper. He loved his new stuffy and hugged it.

And Santa and his cousin had the best Christmas day ever!
