Sydney Spenst was effusive in her praise for a multitude of people at the conclusion of a three-night stand of Mary Poppins Jr.
The artistic director of Beanstalk Theatre Company reserved special praise for Michelle Morris, a professional actor who was born and raised here in qathet region.
“I can’t believe that it was just a year ago we met for coffee at Starbucks and I outlined my dream,” said Spenst after calling Morris on stage. “You said to me, ‘you lead, I’ll follow.’”
Spenst told the audience that everything she does “is for all the young people you see here.”
The 23 young performers and Spenst were also supported by vocal director Lesley Sutherland, and various behind-the-scenes crews for costumes, stage management, props and sets.
An enthusiastic audience including youngsters through to seniors gave the cast a standing ovation at the conclusion of the performance that ended with a rousing rendition of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
