Northside residents are so lucky to have such a great fire department. Not only does Northside Volunteer Fire Department train to deal with fires and medical emergencies in qathet Regional District (qRD) Electoral Area A, for many years the department has also put on a great Halloween event for the children who live in the area.
Called the “Haunted Forest,” on Halloween night trick-or-treat stations were once again set up in the “spooky” forest at Craig Park. The little ones trekked from station to station collecting goodies from ghosts, witches, spiders and other themed stations.
Free hot dogs and juice were served at the concession and the bonfire entrances warmed everyone who attended the event on October 31.
The event used to feature fireworks, however, being noisy, expensive and pollutants, they were discontinued in favour of the haunted forest concept.
Local businesses have started sponsoring the themed trick-or-treat stations by donating toward the candy and other items that were handed out to the children.
The event is funded by donations and fundraising. It was open to all Northside residents.
Northside Volunteer Fire Department’s fire protection service area includes properties from just north of the Village of Lund, south to Wilde Road, and includes properties on the west side of Okeover Inlet as far north as Penrose Bay, according to qathet Regional District. The fire department also provides its services to the Klahanie and Southview lease lands through an agreement with Tla’amin Nation.
