TAKES PRIZE: Clansman Pipe Band travelled to Victoria on the May long weekend to compete at the Victoria Highland Gathering, placing third in its category.

Clansman Pipe Band of Powell River members are proud to have placed third in their division at the Victoria Highland Gathering on the May long weekend.

According to pipe band president Ann Snow, there were five bands competing in the grade five category.

Snow said competition was on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19.

“All the bands had to play one medley each day while marching onto the field and forming a circle,” said Snow. “We were graded on our piping skills and the drumming ensemble. The adjudicators' comments were encouragingly positive.”

Snow said the pipe band’s next competition will be at the Campbell River Highland Gathering in August.

She also suggested qathet region residents watch for the pipe band’s performances at Powell River Logger Sports, Texada Sandcastle Weekend, Canada Day celebrations, Remembrance Day ceremonies and other public events.

“New members are welcome,” said Snow. “Lessons are free.”

Snow said the band thanks Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164 for financial support and Sunshine Coast Health Centre for use of its passenger van.
