Rain mixed with higher temperatures means snow melt and possible flooding in Sechelt this weekend.

The snow is expected to start melting this weekend, causing possible flooding in Sechelt.

Rain plus wind plus warmer temperatures means melting snow and possible flooding.

To that end, the District of Sechelt is asking residents to prepare for and prevent pooling water that could lead to localized flooding, as snow that has accumulated since early February continues to melt, and with rain in the forecast for the area for Feb. 15 and 16, it’s going to get messy out there.

But that’s the weekend. According to Environment Canada, today, Feb. 14 (Valentine’s Day in case you need a reminder), Sechelt will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 5C and low of zero overnight.

This morning with the windchill, the temperature was -7C with winds blowing up to 15 km/h. Clouds will increase overnight and periods of rain will begin Saturday morning. You can expect rain mixed with wet snow later in the morning with a high of 4C during the day and low of 2C overnight.

It’s pretty much the same for Sunday, but with a high of 5C and low of zero overnight.

The forecast over at Weatherhood is for a high of 2C today with a low of zero overnight. The days are definitely getting longer with sunset this evening at 5:35 p.m. and sunrise on Saturday at 7:21 a.m.
