Slightly cooler than normal thermometer readings and damp conditions are in store for the first day of Spring on the lower Sunshine Coast.

Environment Canada reports the "normal" daytime high temperature for March 20 in Sechelt is 11 degrees C, but is calling for the mercury to not rise past the 7 degree mark locally today. For the overnight low, that authority expects temperatures to be at 4 degrees, which it reports as the "average" reading for this date.

Weatherhood says showers and/or rain is almost guaranteed today, with the chance of precipitation at 99 per cent. Its outlook is for 11 millimetres to fall today, and for the wet stuff to be with us for at least a portion of the next five days.

The spring blossoms in our area can look forward to being well hydrated. Enjoy the first day of the new season....
