Coast Reporter received a tip alleging that on Oct. 24 gunshots were fired near Gibsons Elementary which triggered a shelter-in-place protocol as well as an active shooter drill.

School District 46 (SD46) dispelled the story. It said that at the end of the day, after dismissal on Oct. 24, rumours reached the school’s principal about a possible police presence on nearby O’Shea Road.

With a few students and families still on the playground, the principal took precautionary measures, brought everyone inside and contacted the RCMP, who confirmed it was safe to resume normal activities, according to the district.
