A type of multi-purpose cleaner has been recalled from stores across Canada due to the potential for microbial contamination.
The product recall issued Wednesday (Feb. 8) involves the Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner in the Lavender Scent, which sells in 1.65-litre bottles, due to a "microbial hazard."
The recalled products "do not contain the intended levels of preservative which may lead to the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms during the product's shelf life and during manufacturing," according to Health Canada.
While people with healthy immune systems might not be affected by the bacteria, individuals with weakened immune systems face a higher risk.
The affected products have the manufacturing (lot) code 3015US78 or 3016US78 only. They can also be identified with the UPC 035000977588.
Colgate-Palmolive Canada Inc. reports that 21,498 units of the affected product were sold in Canada in January 2023. As of Feb. 6, it hasn't received any reports of injuries resulting from the use of the recalled product.
What you should do
If you have any of the recalled products, immediately stop using them and take photos of the UPC codes/lot codes. Contact Colgate–Palmolive for a full refund of the purchase price (with receipt) or of the manufacturer’s recommended retail price (without receipt) or for a coupon for a free replacement bottle.
After requesting a refund, dispose of the product safely according to local municipal waste requirements.
