Powell River and District Christmas Cheer Committee will receive $5,000 from Western Forest Products (WFP) as part of a contribution the company is making to help community groups spread holiday cheer.

“With the challenges this year has brought for many, we believe it is more important than ever that we play a role in helping those in need,” stated WPF president and chief executive officer Don Demens in a media release. “This is a season of giving and we are grateful to have the opportunity to continue our tradition of supporting the areas in which we live and work.”

Overall, WFP is contributing a total of $100,000 to more than 40 groups on the coast of BC and in Washington State where the company operates.

“This has been a challenging year for the Christmas Cheer Committee due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Geri Anderson, chair of the cheer committee. “We’ve had to significantly modify our operations and procedures to protect the health of volunteers and recipients.”

Anderson added that the donation will help the organization put smiles on many faces.

“We would like to extend a big thank-you to Western Forest Products for the generous donation,” stated Anderson. “It is wonderful and inspiring when people show they really care about helping the less fortunate.”
