Another round of snow is currently falling in the qathet region and is expected to continue until late tonight. Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning that Saltery Bay to Powell River in the qathet region will see an accumulation of 10 centimetres of snow.
The warning described why more snow is falling in the region: “A Pacific low pressure system combined with cold temperatures is producing snow this afternoon. The snow will continue this evening before changing to rain overnight. Snowfall amounts of 10 centimetres are expected by Friday morning.”
The warning also stated that rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” according to the alert.
The El Niño weather system will continue with warmer, wet conditions, heading into the weekend and next week.
