String of sunny days in the forecast, except Friday in qathet

Powell River Farmers' Market reopens this Sunday for winter season

Today, Wednesday, January 8, was mild at seven degrees Celsius, with a mix of sun and cloud for most of the day, in the qathet region.

The Weatherhood app is indicating that tonight the temperature will drop to two degrees. The sun set at 4:38 pm.

Friday, January 10, there is a 46 per cent chance of showers during the day, but Saturday and Sunday the sunshine is back with a high temperature of five degrees and a low of zero on Sunday evening.

The winter Powell River Farmers' Market, off Mcleod Road, is back after a short break on Sunday, January 12, opening at 12:30 pm. Winter may not be the best time to find fresh, local fruit, but Coast Berry Company will have frozen blueberries available at the market.

Fresh bread is something folks in qathet can acquire throughout the year from the many bakeries in town. Hearth and Grain Bakery owner Colleen McClean shared in a recent social media post that she decided to take stock of how much bread her team produced in 2024.

"It was slightly shocking for all of us," said McClean. "We sold 16,373 loaves of bread last year."

People may have already celebrated one new year, but the Lunar New Year will begin on January 29, and is celebrated by millions around the world for at least a month with special foods and celebrations. This year is the Year of the Snake.
