FOGGY DAYS: Environment Canada has issued more than one fog warning this past week, including today, Tuesday, November 28.

Environment Canada issued a warning just after 4 pm today Tuesday, November 28, about fog rolling into the Sunshine Coast area, including the qathet region.

The warning stated that near zero visibility in fog is expected or occurring, for tonight and into Wednesday morning. Fog can cause zero visibility, meaning it may be hazardous for travel, and areas in fog that fall below freezing will have a risk of developing slippery surfaces.

The warning also stated that if visibility is reduced while driving, to turn on headlights and maintain a safe following distance in order to avoid an accident.

Environment Canada said that visibility is expected to improve near midday on Wednesday.

The warning was also issued for Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island, Malahat Highway, and Goldstream to Mill Bay on Vancouver Island.

A network called Weatherhood went live earlier this summer through Glacier Media, parent company of the Peak. Readers can access updates at prpeak.com/weather for qathet region forecasts, and for other areas around the province, or download the Weatherhood app on a mobile device.

Weatherhood is a partnership between Glacier Media, Switzerland-based Meteoblue, UBC’s Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and the many community groups and organizations that are hosting a sensor.
