Expanded product lineup and enhanced customer experience at core of expansion

Founded in 2012 by Romina Pavel and her late father, Cris Pavel, Westview Office Technology has evolved from its modest roots.

Romina and Cris built up their business, one customer at a time, by offering award-winning copiers and printers with the kind of fast, local service customers in Powell River couldn’t get from companies servicing the area from Vancouver Island or the Lower Mainland. Earlier this year, Westview took a big leap, entering into a full dealership agreement with Ricoh, one of the world’s biggest photocopier technology companies, to be the exclusive reseller and service provider for its wide range of print devices on the Sunshine Coast.

On November 1, Westview officially took over servicing of the existing fleet of Rioch devices, providing customers with the kind of local service they’ve never had before. The addition expands the range of products already available, including in the low print volume range for small and home offices, something the other two brands Westview carries, Konica Minolta and Kyocera, had fewer options in.

To offer the best service for the expanded customer base, Romina hired a full-time, Powell River-based technician, Justin Sharpe, who will complete his certifications within a month and is eager to grow and expand his skills.

“I grew up tinkering and fixing everything from computers to lawn mowers,” he recalls. “I love figuring out how things work and get a great feeling of satisfaction when I find the solution to a problem, and now I get to be paid for that.”

In addition to offering a wider range of devices, Westview also unveiled its new showroom. Romina made the move to accommodate the growing stock of parts and supplies kept locally, and to enhance customer interaction with cutting-edge office solutions.

“My father and I always envisioned a space where customers could directly interact with the technology,” explains Romina. “Our dream was to build a business that felt personal to every client.”

The showroom at 102-7385 Duncan Street offers a tactile experience where customers can explore a variety of devices from all three brands.

“It’s about more than just selling a product; it’s about providing a solution that perfectly aligns with the client’s operations,” says Romina.

This expansion broadens the company’s reach and enhances the ability to service small, local organizations and larger corporate/public sector clients more efficiently.

“Being named the exclusive Ricoh dealer in this area is a significant step forward for us,” explains Romina. “It reflects our long-term commitment to providing comprehensive solutions and support to every client.”

Environmental responsibility is an important part of Westview’s operation. The company adheres to strict recycling protocols, ensuring all components, from toner cartridges to electronic parts, are recycled or disposed of responsibly. Romina is passionate about sustainability, often going the extra mile to transport materials not recyclable in Powell River to facilities in the Lower Mainland.

“We believe in doing our part to protect the environment while delivering high-quality service,” she says.

Over the next one to two years, Romina also plans on hiring a technician to service Sechelt and Gibsons.

“Having a skilled, full-time technician in Powell River means faster response times and more personalized service,” she adds. “It’s an essential part of our commitment to the community, and I want the same level of service for our clients on the lower Sunshine Coast.”

Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Romina shares that the expansion and growth of the business is something he always dreamed of and would be happy and proud to see happening.

“He and I started this with a vision of quality and service, and every step we take is in honour of that legacy. We’re not just expanding our business; we’re expanding a family dream.”
