Local real estate agent Magda Deininger of 2% Realty made the decision to move to the qathet region with her husband and two young children during the pandemic.
Deininger grew up in Gibsons on the lower Sunshine Coast, and after living in Vancouver, Australia and Calgary, she and her family decided to move back to the west coast. With family already living here, they decided it was the perfect place to call home.
She is challenging the norm in the real estate industry by offering a more affordable buying and selling experience for her clients. She says with the rising cost of homes, and life in general, more people are looking at ways to cut down on spending in all aspects, and a real estate transaction is an expensive one.
“When it comes to selling a home, why would you pay more when you don’t have to?” says Deininger. “From our listing perspective, we offer the same services as other brokerages, but at a more affordable rate.”
Deininger loves the easy accessibility of everything in qathet, and the absence of heavy traffic. She praises the friendly community and genuine happiness of the people who live here.
“People are so welcoming, in stores and everywhere else,” she says. “It’s such a nice thing, especially after coming from a large city where you definitely don’t see that.”
The freedom that comes with being able to let her children explore their surroundings and enjoy nature is another benefit of moving here, she adds.
“You go to the farmers’ market and the kids just run around,” says Deininger. “I don’t think there’s a better place to raise them.”
With experience working for one of the top home builders in Calgary, where she worked as an area manager doing new home sales, Deininger has a background in the industry and has worked closely with first-time homebuyers. She understands complexities involved in the home-buying process and guides her clients through every step along the way.
She also acknowledges that some clients may have a negative connotation associated with lower rates, thinking they may receive less for their money. However, Deininger assures her clients that they will receive the same quality of service and support as they would from any other brokerage.
“It’s a privilege to assist someone in that transaction, and they deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism, regardless of the value of their home,” she explains. “When it comes to buying or selling a home, you want someone who can guide you through the process and provide you with the support you need. I’m here to do just that.”
Deininger has been actively involved in real estate for more than 15 years, flipping and buying investment properties.
“I have a keen eye on what homes are good investments and can help clients find diamonds in the rough and great buys,” she says. “I can guide clients on what changes/renovations are more doable than others, and give them a run down on what would be involved, having renovated many homes in the past.
“Buying or selling a home will likely be the largest transaction someone makes and I love being able to be a part of that.”
She also loves living so close to the ocean, how accessible it is, and that the view can be seen from just about everywhere.
