Mike Kaban's roots in Powell River run deep, tracing back to the 1930s when his family first arrived in our coastal community.

Alongside his wife Kyrie and their 13-year-old son Luke, who is about to start grade eight, Mike embodies the spirit of commitment and passion for his hometown.

Mike and Kyrie have always had a keen interest in real estate. They consistently worked with the same two agents throughout their journey. With the retirement of those agents, he saw an opportunity to turn his passion into a career.

His eye for financial details and hands-on experience in property improvement proves invaluable, allowing him to navigate the complexities of real estate with confidence and expertise.

"We've always loved the act and process of real estate," explains Mike. "Being able to do the majority of work ourselves has been a great asset and a wonderful learning experience."

The most rewarding aspect of being a real estate agent is the ability to help people at any hour any day of the week, he adds. “When you reach out to me, I'm the one who answers your call or text message, no matter what time or day it is.”

People who come in contact with Mike attest to the fact that “I have time for you” is more than just his slogan.

“I truly enjoy helping a person or a family with something, no matter what it is, because that’s just what you do,” says Mike. “It’s really the backbone of what my little family does and a big part of me goes into every job, act and gesture.”

His professional journey began in the logging industry where he worked as an equipment mechanic for 10 years after graduating from BCIT. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he started his own company, in which he enjoyed learning about how successful business works.

His career then took a significant turn when he joined the City of Powell River, dedicating 18 years to public service and eventually becoming Supervisor of the Parks department. During his tenure, Mike gained extensive knowledge about municipal operations and forged lifelong friendships across various departments. He played a crucial role in developing programs to combat invasive species such as knotweed and was the primary contact for large outdoor events such as Powell River Logger Sports and Pacific Region International Summer Music Association (PRISMA).

Included in his city portfolio was the Memorial Bench program. This allowed him to connect with numerous families, guiding them through the process with care and empathy.

His approach to life is built on a foundation of honesty, trust and giving.

"Like any relationship that's worth having, you need to have honesty, trust and the desire to help,” says Mike. “If you don’t feel that connection, then it’s time to make a change.”

In addition to his real estate services, he has added a unique asset to his offerings - a big moving van. The vehicle is free for his clients to use, making their moving process easier and more cost-effective.

Beyond client usage, the van has become a valuable resource for community groups, including local baseball teams and the PRISMA festival.

"It's just another way to give back to the community I love."

“We are deeply grateful to Mike Kaban for generously providing his cube van for the PRISMA Festival; his support ensured smooth transportation throughout the two-week event,” says PRISMA artistic director Arthur Arnold. “Mike’s community spirit and willingness to help made a significant difference this year. Thank you, Mike, for your invaluable support.”

“If you're thinking of buying or selling, please call me so we can chat about the next steps,” says Mike. “Let’s get you into the home you want.”
