In recent history, the controversy surrounding the carbon tax has generated a lot of attention. As a young person who is concerned about the cost of living as I become older, I think the carbon tax should be abolished as soon as possible.
If the carbon tax fails to reduce emissions effectively, should we continue to keep paying for a policy that doesn’t deliver on its promises? The answer is easy, we shouldn’t.
Canada set a goal in 2007 of reducing emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 and has managed to only reduce three per cent of emissions in 17 years. This is too expensive of a price to pay for such little results.
The government continues to enforce unnecessary taxes even as Canadians seek financial aid and a reduction in the overall amount of pointless taxation. At the rate the cost of living is increasing, Canada is going to become a nation where future generations won’t be capable of living.
You can show your opposition to this tax today by writing to your local Member of Parliament, supporting parties that advocate for cutting out the carbon tax, and by continuing to learn more about this everyday topic. Thank you for joining me in bringing awareness to this issue.
