I am angry and deeply disturbed by the blatant absence of public consultation and disregard for the residents of Townsite regarding the proposed composting facility to be created in the community [“Ratepayers oppose composting project in Powell River,” February 22].
I am strongly opposed to it for the following reasons: Odour, which will carry to other districts depending on prevailing winds; health issues due to potential contaminants, especially affecting those with respiratory ailments; attractants for wildlife and vermin; decline in tourism, businesses and new residents attracted to our heritage district; loss of enjoyment in our outdoor spaces, walking, gardening, et cetera.
With all due respect, I would suggest that the facility be located in the old incinerator site alongside the recycling centre, on the pole line, or any other suitable area, rather than a heritage-registered site.
