Letter: Rotarians grateful for recognition

"The sea walk was a massive project, and its upgrading is far beyond the capability of our club members, but we do appreciate Mr. Hunter’s suggestion that we could help with it."

Many qathet region residents take advantage of the sea walk, a popular path in the heart of Westview.

In response to the letter from Hugh Hunter that was published on May 23 [“Letter: Upgrading sea walk an eye-catching opportunity"], the Rotary Club of Powell River is grateful for the recognition he gave to our members who live by the motto Service Above Self.

We have provided many assets to City of Powell River over the years including the Willingdon Beach campsite with its bathrooms and laundry facilities, the water park, Popeye and Friends statues and exercise equipment, and the Rotary Pavilion.

In addition, Rotary provided the Westview Viewpoint with its memorial bricks and the Max Cameron Dog Park.

Once the projects have been paid for and completed, they are turned over to the city and Rotary is no longer responsible for them with the exception of the washers and dryers at the campsite, which are replaced by Rotary when needed, and the viewpoint, where Rotary continues to add bricks to the site. However, ongoing maintenance is provided by the city.

The sea walk was a massive project, and its upgrading is far beyond the capability of our club members, but we do appreciate Mr. Hunter’s suggestion that we could help with it.
