Letter: False brochures

"Should you think you are reading something from a fake profile...put it where it belongs, in the recycling bin."

Beach Gardens Resort and Marina.

Last Wednesday [September 4], Chris Moore, the candidate for the Conservative Party of BC in the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding, hosted an event at Beach Gardens Resort and Marina where John Rustad, the party leader, spoke [“Conservative leader outlines philosophy at stop in qathet region,” September 5]. Admission to the event was free, and all that was asked for in return was a respectful exchange.

The event was well attended, but unbeknownst to our volunteers, some fake Conservative-appearing brochures were placed on our information table designed to embarrass, and do not reflect our party's positions. This group is likely the same one that has also started false Facebook profiles, spreading gross misrepresentations.

Though we do not yet know who is behind the fraud, the content of the brochure and the Facebook profile was intended to make the Conservative Party of BC appear bad. These false brochures were also delivered around town. Such activity is a crime.

Should you think you are reading something from a fake profile please contact our office or, should you receive one of the fake brochures, put it where it belongs, in the recycling bin. In the meantime, we have contacted the appropriate authorities and handed over any video we have.

We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.
