Letter: Everyone will benefit from a hospice house

"Every family at one point in their lives requires palliative care."

Earlier this year, Four Tides Hospice Society president Cathy Fisher [left] and vice-president Malerie Meeker [right] held the society’s branding designed by Moira Kelly, a grade 11 Partners in Education student, who formed four waves into a heart-shaped design.

Many municipal governments not only contribute to a local hospice society annually but also have a hospice house to support families that are going through the palliative care of a loved one in their final hours [“Hospice society seeks funding from qathet Regional District,” November 8].

Powell River is so far behind in this. It is quite frankly an embarrassment to our community as a whole. Every family at one point in their lives requires palliative care. A hospice house is not an option but a requirement for our region.

My family donates monthly to Four Tides Hospice Society. If people, including philanthropists who may consider a donation, realized that maybe, we as a community can help get a hospice house for our community. Everyone will benefit in the end.
