Powell River Regals and Williams Lake Stampeders will meet for the second time in 24 hours tonight (Friday, March 29) in the semi-final of the 2024 Coy Cup senior AA provincial championship tournament at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 7:30 pm.

Stampeders doubled the host Regals in the final round-robin game on Thursday, March 28, scoring twice in the first period and once in the second and third stanzas to take a 4-0 lead. Jared Winkel converted on breakaway and Travis Granbois pounced on a rebound to reply with goals for Powell River late in the the third period and make the final 4-2. Brad Cimaglia, Brett Kinley, Riley Billy and Jack Long assisted on the plays.

“We were able to see what Williams Lake had and their style of play,” said Regals’ coach Tod English. “I thought we had good pushes in the first period and definitely outplayed them in the third winning 2-1 and exposing their goalie. We’ve taken 105 shots in the last two games. We know our puck luck will change.”

Nic Peters made 28 saves for the Regals, who outshot the Stampeders 42 to 36. In a win over Penticton on March 27, Regals scored six times while sending 63 shots toward the opposing goalie.

Earlier in the day, Terrace River Kings crushed Penticton Silver Bullets 9-1 to earn a spot in the championship game on Saturday, March 30, at 7:30 pm. Terrace finished the round-robin with two wins and a tie, ahead of Williams Lake (two wins, one loss), Powell River (one win, one tie, one loss) and Penticton (three losses).
