Powell River U13C Kings hosted the inaugural Darren Clark Memorial Tournament from January 6 to 8, at Hap Parker Arena, and skated their way to a gold medal victory.
The six-team event featured Powell River, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Victoria and two teams from Comox Valley. The tournament took place from January 6 to 8 and unfolded in a round-robin format.
Powell River was undefeated in round-robin play with wins over Comox 6 (5-4), Victoria (17-5), Vancouver (6-5) and Comox 1 (7-6). The hosts entered the final tied in points with Nanaimo U13C Clippers, a team that also finished the round-robin portion of the tournament without a loss.
Powell River outscored Nanaimo 9-4 on Sunday, January 8, to win the championship, which led to a celebration in front of local fans.
U13C Kings next home game is Sunday, January 15, at 12 pm on the rink at Powell River Recreation Complex versus Comox Valley U13C Flyers. Team officials are encouraging hockey fans to come out prior to the BC Hockey League game between Powell River Kings and Chilliwack Chiefs (1:30 pm at Hap Parker Arena) for a doubleheader of local hockey action.
