Surrey Eagles hold off late surge, defeat Powell River Kings

Powell River Kings’ rally from a three goal, third period deficit fell one goal short against Surrey Eagles on Sunday, January 16.

After a scoreless first period at Hap Parker Arena, the visiting Eagles outscored the Kings 4-1 in period two. Maxim Potvin scored the lone goal for the home team, briefly tying the game at one before the Eagles added three unanswered goals prior to intermission.

Kings’ forward Parker Lalonde capitalized on a power play 5:40 into the third period, cutting the lead to 4-2, then Owen Barrow made it 4-3 midway through the final frame to close out the scoring.

Powell River pressed for the equalizer but could not beat Eagles’ goaltender Eli Pulver again. Pulver stopped 30 of 33 shots in the game while Kings’ netminder Matthias Smith made 28 saves.

Lalonde, Casey Aman and Ethan Riesterer, with two, picked up assists for Powell River. Attendance was 500.

The two teams meet again tonight (January 17) at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 7 pm.
