Newly acquired defender Lucas Bourdon scored the lone goal for Powell River Kings in a 4-1 loss to Victoria Grizzlies in BC Hockey League (BCHL) action on New Year’s Day.

Kings traded future considerations to Chilliwack Chiefs on December 31 for Bourdon, who is from Chilliwack.

Three of Victoria’s four goals came on power plays, including one in each period. The home team also scored at even strength in the second period, and held a 4-0 lead until Anthony Lucarelli set up Bourdon’s first goal of the BCHL season 3:10 into the third period to break the shutout bid close out the scoring.

Grizzlies converted on three of six opportunities with the extra attacker, while the Kings went 0-3 on the power play.

Goaltender Zak Brice made 32 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 26-32 in the game. Attendance at the Q Centre in Victoria was 1,119.

The weekend road trip continues for Powell River with a stop in Duncan for an afternoon game versus Cowichan Valley Capitals on January 2. Puck drop is set for 2 pm.

The next home game for the Kings is Wednesday, January 5, against the Grizzlies. Game time is 7 pm.
