Powell River Kings skated to a 4-2 win over Coquitlam Express in BC Hockey League action on April 18.

Ben Brunette scored twice and added an assist to lead Powell River Kings in a 4-2 win over Coquitlam Express on April 18 in Burnaby.

Brunette opened the scoring at 6:23 of the first period to put the Kings ahead 1-0. Two minutes after the Express tied the game in period two, Brunette and Josh Kagan combined to set up the third goal of the season for Nolan Krogfoss at 16:24, the first of three straight power play markers for the Kings.

Kagan, who also had a three-point game, drew the lone assist on Brunette’s second of the afternoon, the eventual game winner, two minutes later for a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Ethan Riesterer and Krogfoss assisted on Kagan’s 10th of the season 1:31 into the third period for a 4-1 lead, which held until Coquitlam scored late at 18:23 to make the final 4-2.

Special teams played a huge role in the outcome. Powell River converted three of seven power play opportunities and killed off all seven penalties they took.

Brunette (first), Kagan (second) and Krogfoss (third) were selected as game stars. Jakob Drapeau picked up the win in goal, turning aside 21 of 23 shots.

Kings look to bounce back from a pair of recent lopsided losses to Surrey Eagles when they return to the ice at Scotia Barn in Burnaby for their next game on April 19. Puck drop is at 8 pm.
