Shots hit mark at provincial competition

Powell River Yellow Jackets rifle team brought home four medals from this year’s provincial small-bore competition held over Victoria Day long weekend, May 18 and 19, in Parksville, BC.

The team, composed of six junior and three senior members, attended the provincial 22 rifle competition. Shooting in the Sporting Rifle classification the team had seven top five finishes, winning one silver and three bronze medals.

The team was led by coach Darryl Craig who won a bronze medal in the senior men’s competition. “I am so proud of our entire team,” said Craig. “I was told by several other coaches that the firing line discipline shown by our junior shooters was outstanding. That discipline resulted in some wonderful results.”

Craig added, “All of the shooters have had outstanding support from their families, and the result was that everyone had a fun and exciting weekend as well as bringing home four medals.”

Medal winners included: Geoffrey Hodgins, silver in junior men; Lynnsey McQuarrie, bronze in junior ladies; Colin McQuarrie, bronze in junior men; and Craig, bronze in senior men.

Yellow Jackets team shoots weekly and welcomes new members of any skill level to come out and give target shooting a try. For more information, readers can contact Craig at 604.414.7164.
