Carter Cochrane’s first goal of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season was the difference in Powell River Kings’ 5-4 win over Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday, October 1.

Will Jones assisted on the power play marker at 8:33 of the third period, which secured the second road win in as many nights for the Kings after a 6-4 victory in Nanaimo one day earlier.

The home team held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, but Powell River exploded for four second-period goals from Ryder Ringor, Anthony Yu, Aaron Neal and Colin MacDougall, doubling a pair by Alberni, to lead 4-3.

Bulldogs knotted the score at 4-4 at 5:53 in the third period. Cochrane’s game-winner came exactly three minutes later.

Kings were heavily outshot for the second straight game, 46-21, with goaltender Liam Vanderkooi picking up another win.

Nic Porchetta, Ringor and Jones recorded a pair of assists apiece, while MacDougall and Yu had one helper each.

Attendance at Alberni Valley Multiplex was 1,362.
