Powell River Minor Hockey Association teams remained undefeated in Coastal Cup play in Gibsons on Sunday, September 10.
After a win by Powell River U18 Kings over Sunshine Coast Blues, and ties at the U15 and U13 level between the two organizations at Powell River Recreation Complex on September 9, all six teams met for rematches in Gibsons the following day.
U13 Kings fought back from a 2-0 first period deficit to edge U13 Blues 4-3. Reid Stekman, with a pair, Cameron Milne and Pearson Coburn were the goal scorers for Powell River, who also trailed 3-2 midway through the third period. Brayden Brackett, Noah Murawsky and Keaton Durkin each scored for the Blues.
Lucas Gruntman scored twice for U15 Kings, including the game winner in the second period, to lead his team to a 4-1 win over U15 Blues, who spoiled the shutout with a goal from Jakson Stevenson in the second period. Cooper Lawry and Kooper Kozmeniuk also scored for the visitors.
In the final game of the day, U18 Kings rallied to earn a tie after trailing 4-1 in the second period.
After Conor McKevitt gave the hometown U18 Blues a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, Liam Carroll equalized for Powell River, before Sunshine Coast took a commanding lead with three more goals in a five-minute span from Wyatt Dunkerton and two from Nicolas Alexis. Powell River responded with a trio of goals of their own, all off the stick of Paxton Schreiber, whose hat-trick goal in the third period made the final 4-4.
