After winning game one of the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Tier 3 final series at home on February 26, Powell River Minor Hockey Association’s U13 rep hockey team needed one win in Port Hardy last weekend to book a spot in the provincial championships.
In game two on March 5, Triport prolonged the best-of-three series with a 6-4 win. The next day, in the deciding game, Powell River trailed 5-4 after 40 minutes but rallied with a tying and game-winning goal in the third period, followed by an empty-net goal to seal the game 7-5 and take the series 2-1.
The BC Hockey U13 Tier 3 championship tournament takes place in Trail from March 19 to 23. The team will spend the next two weeks fundraising for the trip.
