Powell River Minor Baseball hands out year-end awards

Players receive recognition after championships decided in multiple divisions

Powell River Minor Baseball Association recently recognized individual players for achievements over the course of the 2023 season, after championships were claimed in multiple divisions.

U15 and U18 players were combined to make five teams. WINMAR won the championship with Samuel Legault being named U15 MVP (most valuable player) and Jake Hollingshead receiving the same honour among the U18 players.

Awards were also given to players on each team.

Valley Builders’ most improved player was Marlina Hansen. Matteo Trevisanutto was named MVP and Brooklyn Dollevoet received most sportsmanlike recognition.

JD Signs’ most improved player was William Mgeni, while Nathan Gruntman was chosen as MVP and the entire team received the most sportsmanlike award.

Leander Browne and Leevi Rodocker earned most improved player recognition for WINMAR. Dreydan Harris was the team’s MVP.

Rivercity Mini Excavating named Morgan Hanlon as its MVP, Sam Hackett as most improved player and Rowen Jones as most sportsmanlike.

The Peak’s most improved player was Leighton Palmquist, while Beau Gagnon received MVP honours and Marc-Antoine Legault was chosen as most sportsmanlike.

U13

WINMAR also won the U13 championship. Lucas Gruntman was named the division’s MVP.

James Barrows was WINMAR’s MVP; most improved player was Kirk Rockwell; Logan Greenwood was named most sportsmanlike.

The Peak’s MVP was Everett Robertson. His teammates Callum Buhler (most improved) and John Carlson (most sportsmanlike) were also recognized.

J&D Signs’ MVP was Blake Peters. Cameron Milne was the team’s most improved player. Isaac Greene was most sportsmanlike.

Rivercity Mini Excavating award recipients were Kooper Kozmeniuk (MVP), Quynn Lefleur (most improved) and Kalen Foley (most sportsmanlike).

U11 

Rivercity Mini Excavating claimed the U11 championship, led by team MVP Molly Culos, most improved player Zach Labree, and most sportsmanlike Malcolm Rosenfeld.

A&W chose Brayden Messner as team MVP, while Cooper Bakker was recognized as most improved and Greyson Carlos received most sportsmanlike honours.

WINMAR’s recognized players were Reily Strickland (MVP), Neddy Hender (most improved) and Sophia Grundle (most sportsmanlike).

Playoffs were held at the end of June. U11, U13 and U15 travel teams also played during the regular season against Campbell River, Sunshine Coast and Comox.
