Powell River Kings completed a deal with Trail Smoke Eaters prior to the BC Hockey League (BCHL) trade deadline on January 10.
2003-born forward Maxim Potvin was sent to the Interior Conference team in exchange for 2004-born forward Remy Spooner, and future considerations.
Spooner is from Kelowna and has played in 26 games as a rookie for the Smoke Eaters this season, collecting one goal and three assists.
“Remy is a player we feel can come in and have a positive impact on our group,” said Kings’ general manager Chad van Diemen. “He skates well, has a quick release and is hard to play against.”
Prior to his stint in the BCHL, Spooner skated with the Okanagan Hockey Academy U18 prep team and recorded 13 goals and 17 assists in 27 games.
Potvin was in his second year with the Kings; he appeared in 75 games with the club. This season, in 27 games, he has scored five times to go along with 13 assists.
“Moving Max became a priority over the last few days,” added van Diemen. “He needed a fresh start and we are happy we were able to find a trade with Trail that benefits both teams and both players.”
Kings are back in action at home this weekend with a pair of games versus Chilliwack Chiefs.
Game time is 7 pm on Saturday, January 14. The following afternoon, admission to a 1:30 pm game is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.
