After spending last season in Sweden’s top junior league, Axel Löfgren has committed to playing in the BC Hockey League in 2024/2025.

Powell River Kings have announced the signing of 19-year-old Axel Löfgren for the upcoming BC Hockey League (BCHL) season.

The six-foot, three-inch tall defender, who is from Luleå, Sweden, is expected to be a key piece on the Kings’ blueline, according to Kings’ assistant general manager Stephan Seeger Jr.

“Axel will play a big role in our defensive core this season; he excels in maintaining a tight gap and closing in on opposing forwards swiftly,” stated Seeger Jr, in a media release. “For a taller player he skates quite smoothly and has some offensive flair to his game that we encourage. We are excited and proud to be adding Axel to the roster for the 2024/2025 season.”

Löfgren played for Luleå HF J20 in Sweden’s top junior league last season and registered 10 points in 45 games. He also suited up in four games at the men’s level in Sweden’s third-tier league, Hockeyettan, where he had two assists.
