Powell River Kings open road trip with loss in Salmon Arm

Silverbacks edge visitors from BC Hockey League's Coastal Conference

Salmon Arm Silverbacks edged Powell River Kings 3-2 at Rogers Rink in Salmon Arm on Friday, March 14.

Noah Samanski and Brendan Giles scored for the Kings, who opened the scoring late in the second period only to give up the equalizer 17 seconds later.

The teams exchanged goals in quick succession again in the third period, with the Salmon Arm scoring at the 2:17 mark and Powell River replying at 2:26.

Silverbacks notched the game-winner at 6:56 of the final frame and held that one goal lead for the final 13-plus minutes.

Giles, Eli Friedman, Samanski and Sam Grabner were credited with assists on the Powell River goals. Attendance was 1,241.

With the win Salmon Arm moved into sole possession of fourth place in BC Hockey League (BCHL) Interior Conference standings, two points ahead of Sherwood Park Crusaders. Powell River is 10th among Coastal Conference teams.

Kings continue the road trip in West Kelowna on Saturday, March 15.
