Powell River Kings began BC Hockey League (BCHL) preseason play with a 4-1 win over Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan on September 21.
Branden Toye opened the scoring at 16:02 of the second period with his first of two power play goals in the game.
Karter McNarland also scored twice, including a shorthanded game-winning goal 1:16 into period three, and a power play marker at 11:33 of the final frame. Toye added an additional insurance goal 20 seconds later.
Special teams accounted for all five goals in the game. Cowichan trailed 4-0 before finally solving Kings’ goaltender Zak Brice on a third period power play.
Brice stopped 32 of 33 shots to earn the win. His teammates collectively had 42 shots on Cowichan netminder Jayden Shull.
Powell River continues exhibition play with a pair of evening games in Chilliwack on September 24 and 25, followed by an afternoon contest in Langley on September 26.
Kings open the BCHL regular season with a pair of home games against Nanaimo Clippers on October 8 and 9.
