Powell River Kings evened their record at 1-1 with a 5-2 over Surrey Eagles on April 4.

Powell River Kings bounced back from a 7-6 loss against Coquitlam Express on April 3 by defeating Surrey Eagles 5-2 on April 4 to even their early season record at one win and one loss.

The two teams met at Scotia Barn in Burnaby, which is home to one of five BC Hockey League pods throughout the province.

Josh Kagan scored his fourth of the season for the Kings, capitalizing on an early power play 1:33 into the first period. Ben Raymond doubled the lead at even strength two minutes later and Powell River took the 2-0 lead to the locker room after 20 minutes of play.

Kings doubled their lead again in the second period, with forward Branden Toye scoring on two occasions for a 4-0 lead; both goals were set up by Owen Barrow.

Thomas Wardle’s shut-out bid ended with 7:31 remaining in the third period when Tio D’Addario scored for the Eagles, and the lead was cut to 4-2 four minutes later after D’Addario set up Tyson McLean while on a power play.

Wardle turned aside all other Surrey shots and Kagan added another insurance marker, his fifth in two games, with 2:22 left on the clock to seal the win.

D’Addario earned first star honours followed by Barrow (second) and Toye (third).

Nolan Krogfoss, Ethan Riesterer, Jimmy Darby and Brody Johnston each registered one assist in the game for the Kings, who face the Eagles at Scotia Barn again on April 7. Game time is 7:30 pm.
