Maxim Potvin and Kaleb Nelson each scored twice to lead Powell River Kings in a 6-3 win over the visiting Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday, November 12.
Kings' forward Nolan Krogfoss opened the scoring 2:36 into the BC Hockey League (BCHL) game at Hap Parker Arena, converting on a power play opportunity with assists going to Mark D’Agostino and Karter McNarland. Nic Porchetta and Jason Marsella combined to set up Anthony Lucarelli’s fourth goal of the season with 17 seconds remaining in the first period for a 2-0 lead.
Potvin’s first of the season increased the lead to 3-0 early in period two, with helpers going to Nelson and Ethan Riesterer, before Cowichan finally solved Kings’ goaltender Zak Brice nine seconds before the second intermission.
Capitals cut the lead to one goal at 8:15 of the final frame, but Potvin answered soon after, scoring the eventual game-winning goal for a 4-2 lead at the 10-minute mark, with an assist going to Dylan Finlay.
Cowichan’s final attempt at a comeback, a goal two minutes later, was thwarted by Nelson’s first of the game, from Potvin and Riesterer, at 13:29. Finlay registered another assist on Nelson’s empty-net goal with one second remaining to round out the scoring.
Potvin was named the game’s first star ahead of Brice, who made 32 saves to earn the win, and Cowichan left winger Brett Fudger, who scored once.
Capitals outshot the Kings 35-31. Attendance was 792.
Kings host the Capitals again tonight (November 13) at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 7 pm.
