Powell River Kings announced the signing of 2005-born forward Rémi Gélinas on December 7.
Gélinas, who is from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, comes to the Kings after starting the season with the Hawkesbury Hawks of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). He started his sophomore campaign in that Junior A league by scoring 16 goals and 18 assists in 24 games, matching the totals from his rookie season in half as many games. In 80 career CCHL games, Gélinas scored 32 times and added 36 assists.
The 18-year-old left-shot forward is a promising talent and was someone the Kings had their eye on for some time, according to club vice-president Chad van Diemen.
“Rémi is a player we spoke to over the summer at length,” stated van Diemen. “He went back to Hawkesbury and has gotten off to a very good start to the season and is the sixth leading scorer in the CCHL, and the leading scorer among 2005-born players. Adding Rémi now makes our team better and he will be a key piece of our forward group moving ahead.”
Gélinas is expected to make an immediate impact when he makes his Kings’ debut in Nanaimo on Friday, December 8.
