Powell River Minor Hockey’s eldest rep team (U18 Kings) showed its offensive prowess versus U18 Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday, February 8.

Chase Fontaine recorded a hat-trick and Jeremy Pukesh scored twice in an 8-2 win at Hap Parker Arena. Ben Belyea, Noah Culos and Weston Kolba rounded out the scoring for the home team. Assists were credited to Reece Deeble, Paxton Schreiber, Beau Jameson Gagne, Lucas Wadsworth, Pukesh, Belyea, Tristan Hawkins, Connal Miller, Nathan Gruntman and Culos.

Powell River is tied with Kerry Park atop Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association U18 Tier 3 playoff standings with four points from two wins apiece. Sooke and Cowichan Valley are tied for third place with one win and one loss each. Peninsula (North Saanich) and North Island Eagles (Tri-Port) are both winless after playing two games.

Powell River won its first playoff game by a score of 3-1 over North Island in Port McNeill on January 26. Belyea opened the scoring early in the second period, then set up Gagne's eventual game-winner six minutes later. Eagles cut the deficit in half prior to intermission but Evan Penner added an insurance marker, unassisted, for Powell River in the third period to secure the win.
