Coquitlam picks up road win, shuts out Powell River Kings

Express take over second place in BCHL's Coastal Conference, Kings remain in cellar

A power play goal early in the third period stood up as the game winner for Coquitlam Express in a 2-0 over Powell River Kings on Friday, November 8.

Kings goaltender Vincent Lamberti was named the game’s first star after turning aside 35 of the 37 shots he faced. His counterpart and second star Eric Young made 23 saves for the shutout win.

Coquitlam forward Thomas Zocco (third star) scored 2:50 into the final frame. His teammate Jack Bakker added an insurance marker for the visitors with just under five minutes remaining in the game. Nick Wellenreiter assisted on both goals. David Brander Brandes was credited with the second assist on the game winning tally.

The win moved the Express into sole possession of second place in BC Hockey League Coastal Conference standings, two ahead of Alberni Valley Bulldogs and three behind Chilliwack Chiefs, who occupy the top spot. Kings are last, three points behind ninth place Nanaimo Clippers.

Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 793.
