OFFENSIVE ADDITION: Calvin Beard spent three seasons playing USHS-Prep hockey before signing with Powell River Kings.

Another defender has been added to the Powell River Kings roster. The BC Hockey League (BCHL) club announced the signing of Calvin Beard on August 6.

The 2005-born 18-year-old from Southborough, Massachusetts, has spent the last three seasons playing at St. Mark’s School (USHS-Prep), which is located in his hometown. He recorded more than a point per game with the team, racking up 92 points in 82 games.

Beard, who is six-feet, two-inches tall, is expected to provide an offensive threat on the blueline during the 2024/2025 season.

“Calvin skates well and is no stranger to the offensive side of the game,” stated Kings’ assistant general manager Stephan Seeger Jr., in a media release. “Expect Calvin to be jumping up in the play often; he likes to get pucks to the net, especially through traffic.”

Beard was captain of St. Mark’s last season, which was his best statistically. He finished third on the team in scoring with 44 points (17 goals and 27 assists) in 28 games.
