Powell River Kings and Trail Smoke Eaters met at Abbotsford Centre on Tuesday, October 15, to kick off the 2024 BC Hockey League Showcase event, where all teams in the league are playing a pair of games at two locations, the other being Chilliwack Coliseum.

Powell River led 3-2 after 20 minutes courtesy of goals from Axel Lofgren, Joel Purdom and Tommy Karmiris, which erased a two goal lead Trail established earlier in the period.

After a pair of goals put the Smoke Eaters ahead 4-3 midway through period two, Purdom added his second of the game to tie the score 4-4.

Mark Beaudoin's third goal of the season gave Powell River a brief 5-4 lead at 1:54 of the third period, but Trail bounced back, scoring a trio of unanswered goals over a six minute span to win 7-5.

Kings play Surrey Eagles in Chilliwack on October 16.
