Powell River Kings and Trail Smoke Eaters met at Abbotsford Centre to kick off the 2024 BC Hockey League Showcase event, where all teams in the league are playing a pair of games at two locations, the other being Chilliwack Coliseum.

Powell River led 3-2 after 20 minutes courtesy of goals from Axel Lofgren, Joel Purdom and Tommy Karmiris, which erased a two goal lead Trail established earlier in the period.

After a pair of goals put the Smoke Eaters ahead 4-3 midway through period two, Purdom added his second of the game to tie the score 4-4.

Mark Beaudoin's third goal of the season gave Powell River a brief 5-4 lead at 1:54 of the third period, but Trail bounced back, scoring a trio of unanswered goals over a six minute span to win 7-5.

Kings play Surrey Eagles in Chilliwack on October 16.
