Powell River Kings defeated Cowichan Valley Capitals at Hap Parker Arena for the second time in as many days on Saturday, March 18.

Twenty-four hours after skating to a convincing 9-5 win, Powell River edged Cowichan 5-4 in overtime to conclude the home portion of the 2022/2023 BC Hockey League (BCHL) season.

Anthony Lucarelli opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, his fourth of the weekend series and 21st of the season. Goals from Jack Blanchett and Cameron Symons put Powell River up 3-0 in the second period before Cowichan stormed back with four straight goals, one prior to intermission and three more by the eight-minute mark of period three to take a 4-3 lead.

Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero forced extra time with an unassisted shorthander marker with just over three minutes remaining in the game, then combined with Dylan Hewlett to set up the game-winning goal off the stick of Karter McNarland 1:15 into overtime. Van Houtte-Cachero also set up Lucarelli’s first period goal.

Kyle Metson turned aside 41 shots to earn the win in goal for the Kings, who were outshot by a margin of 45-34. Attendance was 776.

Powell River completes the 2022/2023 regular season on the road with three games this weekend. The trip starts in Surrey on March 24 before stops in Langley on March 25 and Coquitlam on March 26.
