Hunter Andrew scored the only goal for Powell River Kings in a 2-1 loss to Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday, February 5. The teams combined for just three goals, one in each period, in the low-scoring BC Hockey League (BCHL) contest.

Parker Lalonde and Maxim Potvin set up the Kings’ goal during an early second period power play, which tied the score at one. The host Bulldogs had opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period, which also came on a power play.

Alberni outshot Powell River 16-9 in the third period (41-23 overall) and scored the eventual game-winning goal with six minutes left on the clock.

Kings pulled goaltender Matthias Smith, who stopped 39 shots, with just under two minutes remaining but were unable to beat Hobie Hedquist again. The Bulldogs’ netminder made 22 saves on the night.

Smith was named the game’s third star behind Alberni goal scorers Stephen Castagna (first) and Logan Holm (second).

Attendance at Weyerhaeuser Arena in Port Alberni was 910.

Kings host Nanaimo Clippers on February 11 (7 pm) and February 12 (5 pm) at Hap Parker Arena. The February 11 game was previously scheduled for February 13, and those tickets will be valid for entry at the rescheduled game.
