It is with profound sadness that we announce Wendy Marie Wilson (née Keizer, aka Smilie) passed away peacefully on May 16 in the Powell River hospital, after valiantly battling pancreatic cancer for 4.5 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years Shamus Wilson, her father Don Keizer, her sister Tracy (her children Ben and Quinn), brother Greg (Becky), and brothers-in-law Grant and Dwight (Pat and their children Colin, Justin and Amy.)
Wendy was born in Campbell River and moved with the family to Powell River until she graduated. She completed her postsecondary education in Vancouver.
She pursued her career as an executive assistant in the office of the city manager for the City of Burnaby. One of the highlights of her career was being instrumental in organizing the World Police and Fire Games in 2009.
One of her passions was fast-pitch, where she started at age 13 in Powell River, continuing on in Vancouver, where she went on to attain many provincial and even two Gold World Master's Medals - one in 1994 in Brisbane, Australia, and in 2002 in Melbourne, Australia. Her other interests included curling, travelling, motorcycle touring, sewing, cooking, and mostly, a sociable with friends.
Wendy was blessed with a fulfilled life with hardly a moment wasted. She was always ready to help and was unfailingly supportive and optimistic. She will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A celebration of Wendy’s life will be held in the Lower Mainland later this summer. Donations to the BC Cancer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. No formal service by request.
